The President of Lithuania justifies the Petition by pointing out, that „the privatization critique is justified and solid, as much as questioning of the decision of Vilnius City Municipality to sell the cinema Lietuva. Vilnius City Municipality has to take implicit liability in front of Vilnius citizens and Lithuanian society for such decision and find the means to resolve problems in the proper way”. Petition is also justified by the Committee of Education, Science and Culture at the Parliament pointing out “that privatization and destruction of the cinema Lietuva contradicts the approaching engagements of Vilnius city as European Capital of Culture in 2009”.
